How does the service work?

1

Contact Us

Providing some information about your current difficulties will help to determine if it will be helpful to book in for an assessment.

2

Psychological Assessment

This will take up to 90 minutes and will take place online via Zoom. We will discuss your current difficulties, personal history and any previous therapy you have had. We will also explore your ideas about what you would like to achieve from therapy.

3

Online Therapy Sessions

If following assessment we decide it is appropriate to offer therapy sessions (occasionally it is more appropriate to refer on to another service) the exact nature and number of these sessions will depend on your individual needs and therapy goals.

FAQs

What is a Clinical Psychologist?

Clinical Psychologists are highly trained mental health professionals whose work involves improving mental wellbeing through the application of evidence based psychological theory, assessment and interventions. UK trained Clinical Psychologists are trained to Doctoral level within NHS funded training programmes and must be registered with the Health Care and Professions Council in order to practice. Clinical Psychology is a highly regulated profession within the UK. By arranging to see a Clinical Psychologist you have the reassurance of knowing you are working with a clinician who is extremely competent in their field.

Are the sessions confidential?

Dr Barrett takes your privacy concerns very seriously. As a Clinical Psychologist it is important to create a safe place where people are able to discuss their private experiences and thoughts and so we always ensure confidentiality in sessions. It is important to highlight though that there are instances where there is a professional obligation to break confidentiality if there is a risk of harm occurring either to a client or another person. If this were to occur we would discuss this with you as long as it was safe to do so. Please refer to our privacy policy for further information.

How many sessions will I need?

This really depends on individual need and treatment goals. Some people attend for only a few sessions, where as others may require longer term input. I always take a collaborative approach when thinking about treatment plans and will discuss number of sessions within the assessment.
